Android’s Got A Problem

Posted by: Flin In: Android

How often do you use the word reboot? If you’ve got Android, I hope for your sake its not very often. It seems that a bug in Android’s system makes it so that typing the word “reboot” the system will reboot itself. I don’t think its that big a deal for most people, but for myself, owning a schizophrenic laptop, a buggy linux PDA, a Gizmondo, rebooting is something I’ve got a lot of. Good thing I dont use Android.

Posted by: Dave In: Beta| Microsoft| News| Software| Windows

CNet are reporting that Windows 7 will ship next year:

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13860_3-10084486-56.html

After all the bad press Vista got, Windows 7 is getting good press with pre-beta.

Windows 7 comes with improved features such as it will run more efficiently. This will mean longer battery life on laptops. Other improved features include faster boot time, more control over UAC, better paint (About time), Calculator, WordPad, able switch WI-FI in one click (Like Ubuntu) and networking should be a lot easier.

Beta should be out at the end of the year

Thats right, the super awesome PS3 BioShocks exclusive DLC is here. For $10 you can get 3 Challenge Rooms, which are basically rooms with puzzles that you need to solve using various Plasmids. Not exactly what people were expecting. In an underwater city full of mutants that want. you dead, you’d expect the DLC to be a bit more than a few puzzles. Oh well, maybe they’ll be fun

Well, in his own words, John DiMaggio is a “double nerd boner”.

As the voice of Bender (Futurama) on one hand, and Marcuz Fenix (Gears Of War) he is indeed, a god to nerds everywhere.

Here a surprise (NOT!)

Despite other problems they’re having, THQ happily announced that Saints Row 2 has shipped over two million copies since its launch less than a month ago.

Saints Row 2 is being praised for its wacky less-than-realistic gameplay and customisability.

Basically, where GTA:IV sacraficed gameplay for graphics, Saints 2 sacraficed graphics for gameplay, thought the graphics are pretty good too.

Fable 2 Quick Review

Posted by: Flin In: Games| Gaming| Xbox 360

Fable 2 is the sequel to the successful game Fable for the Xbox.

Personally, I’ve never played the first Fable game, but I got Fable 2, and although I’ve not yet finished the campaign, I’ve played it enough to get the hang of it in general.

As far as landscape is concerned, its not as big as a game like oblivion, but it is as varied. There are mountains, caves, fields, lakes and everything like that.

Its also pretty interactive, you can show off your talents like dancing or farting. You can even flirt with people and get married, I’m not sure why you’d want to. I done it to get the achievement….then accidentally killed my wife (I swear it wasnt my fault! She followed me and was attacked by a troll!) Now my kid lives in an orphanage. Your faithful dog will follow you everywhere, and even help kill enemies you knock to the ground. Make sure to give him some treats, play fetch and praise him.
The fighting system is absolutly amazing! The X button acts as both the attack and defend button. In most fights you will find yourself fighting at least two enemies, tapping X will cause your character to attack the nearest/targeted enemy while dodging another attack. If you fight like me, and just hit the attack button until everyones dead, then your in for a treat, as continuously hitting X will make your character attack and defend as skillfully as <Whoever your favorite sword weilding hero is>.  Guns and magic are also essential to fighting. Guns come in a wide selection, from Blunderbuss to pistols, to rifles, you’ll find what you want. pressing Y fires you gun, and as your skills improve you will be able to hold Y to zoom in and even lock onto your targets. Magic is my favorite thing in a fight, pressing B will use your primary spell, holding it will cause a sidemenu to appear and the longer your charge your attack it will switch through whatever spells you have equiped.

Story wise its not very long, I’ve played it for about 2 hours in total and I’m about halfway through it. But its a good story, and not as repetative as most other new games. When you start the game you are nothing more than a child (Gender is user defined), after the first couple of missions time fast forwards and your an adult, determined to gain revenge on an evil lord who caused you great pain and is determined to destroy the world.

No Metal Gear Solid 4 DLC?

Posted by: Flin In: Playstation 3

Nowadays your bound to find an expasion for any hit game. So why not for Metal Gear Solid 4, one of the PS3’s defining games? Sadly for anyone expecting as much as a map pack, its not going to happen.

Konami (MGS4’s publisher) have released this official statement:

“There are no plans to expand Metal Gear Solid 4… All further expansions are planned for Metal Gear Online.”

Sure, they’re still working with MGO, but you’d think they’d want to work with what was supposed to be the legendary return of Solid Snake?

I’m A PC Kiosks Outside Apple Stores

Posted by: Flin In: Apple| Microsoft

Now this is funny!

Moving on from their creepy Seinfeld-Gates ads, Microsoft have brought out a new breed of advertisement. It starts with a man, saying “Hi. I’m a PC, and I’ve been turned into a stereotype” and then it procedes to show us normal everyday PC users saying they use PC’s and are individuals.

Well, to give people the chance to be in these ads, Microsofts have placed kiosks in which you can walk right in and record your ad. But the funny thing is, some of these kiosks have been placed stratigically…infront of Apple Stores. So maybe we can expect to see some “Hi, I’m a PC, and I’m about to buy a Macbook”.

I for one love the new ads, they are entertaining without being offensive to Apple. Apples ads poke fun directly at PC’s and PC users, and in my own opinion, directly insulting a competing brand in advertising is just low.

NXE Cutbacks

Posted by: Flin In: Gaming| NXE| Xbox 360

First off, I’d like to say, two weeks to go w00t.

That said, Microsoft have ofically stated that some of the promised NXE features wont be present on the launch, but will be added over time. Thankfully, the features that wont be included are minor, meaning the important stuff is still there (Installing to hard-drives, eight-way chat, netflix, avatars, etc).

The most important point about the NXE that we need to grasp is the fact that its now more of an operating system. Each feature will be its own program (Avatars, netflix, photshop) like on a computer. So users will be able to install or uninstal the parts they want or dont want.

Features that wont be included in the NXE include the PhotoParty app, and Primetime.

I’m not to dissapointed, as long as I get an animated sidekick that can fart when I click the left stick, I’m happy.
